Senior Vice President of Economic Development

Job Overview:

The Senior Vice President of Economic Development is a key leadership position within The Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, responsible for spearheading initiatives and strategies that promote economic growth, attract new businesses, and enhance the overall economic vitality of our community. This role requires a visionary leader who leads a team to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, advocate for our region, and develop and execute innovative economic development programs.

Key Responsibilities:

1.      Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a comprehensive economic development strategy aligned with the Chamber's mission and regional objectives.

2.      Assist Local Businesses.  Works with local businesses to identify needs and ways to help them grow their businesses in the region.

3.      Business Attraction, Growth and Retention: Identify opportunities to attract and retain businesses in the community by coordinating incentives, support services, and advocating for a business-friendly environment.  Work to land significant projects by assisting with the navigation of requirements imposed by various municipalities and stakeholders.

4.      Workforce Development: Collaborate with local educational institutions, other business organizations and workforce development agencies to develop curricula to address the skills for high demand occupations and talent needs of local businesses.  The overarching goal here is to drive wage growth, not just job growth.

5.      Infrastructure Development: Advocate for and support infrastructure improvements that enhance the community's competitiveness and attractiveness to businesses.

6.      Public-Private Partnerships: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, local businesses, and community organizations to foster collaboration and economic growth.  Work closely with our partner agencies toward economic growth in the eight counties where we have active partnerships.  Works closely with economic development team at the City of Omaha and other municipalities in our region.

7.      Marketing and Promotion: Work closely with the marketing team to produce campaigns and promotional materials to showcase the advantages of locating and doing business in the community.

8.      Data Analysis: Works closely with the research team to use data and economic indicators to assess the region's economic health, identify trends, and make data-driven recommendations.

9.      Grant Writing and Fundraising: Work with grants team where appropriate to secure grants, sponsorships, and funding opportunities to support economic development initiatives.

 

Qualifications:

·        Bachelor’s degree in business, Economics, Public Administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).

·        At least 10 years of relevant, proven experience and results in economic development (or comparable private sector experience) business attraction, and partnership building.

·        Strong leadership and strategic planning skills.

·        Excellent communication and presentation abilities.

·        Experience in grant writing and fundraising.

·        Knowledge of economic trends, data analysis, and government policies affecting economic development.

·        Knowledge of and involvement in economic development industry organizations

·        Ability to collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
