VP Marketing and Communications

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To lead the Greater Omaha Chamber’s Marketing and Communications team in the successful planning and execution of promotion and strategies that achieve organizational goals. The Vice President of Marketing and Communications is responsible for directing the Greater Omaha Chamber brand, and developing communications that grow the visibility, recognition and affinity for the organization. This individual will bring a strategic perspective to Executive-level planning and decision making, while still executing on necessary day-to-day tactics for organizational success.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.     Create effective strategies that promote Chamber membership and events to achieve organizational outcomes. Utilize relevant multi-media platforms to engage appropriate external audiences to generate leads, registration and acquisition.

2.     Create effective strategies that promote the nine-county Omaha region as a destination for business expansion and relocation. Utilize relevant multi-media platforms to generate leads for the business attraction department.

3.     Serve as point of intake for new marketing and communication projects from department leaders across the organization. Work with the Marketing Project Manager to develop priorities, timelines and assignments based on department resourcing and capacity.

4.     Provide creative direction for all marketing materials and assets produced by the marketing department and contracted third-party partners. Facilitate creative kickoff meetings and provide timely review and feedback to ensure brand and creative standards are met.

5.     Meet with program leaders throughout the organization to ascertain program marketing and communication needs. Develop strategic recommendations for program communications. Oversee execution of approved recommendations.

6.     Maintain and update appropriate brand standards as appropriate. Ensure proper adherence to brand standards across all departments, materials and communications.

7.     Write, distribute, evaluate and award Requests for Proposal for contracted third-party vendors in photography, videography, web development, graphic design and writing as appropriate to create marketing assets.

8.     Provide initial direction for contracted, third-party vendors to complete asset creation in a timely manner that adheres to brand standards.

9.     Develop and maintain relationships with member partners, including production companies, advertising agencies, design firms, freelancers, sponsors, media companies and others as appropriate.

10.  Select and partner with publisher of annual We Don’t Coast magazine to provide support on advertising sales, content creation, final approval and ongoing distribution.

11.  Oversee marketing integrations with membership database platform, including event registration tracking, member news approval, marketing tech stack synchronization, creative asset library, communication templates and lead import.

12.  Lead decisions regarding website architecture, design, content and user interaction. Utilize data from web analytics to adjustments that guide user attention to primary pages and conversions. Assist with content updates as necessary.

13.  Lead decisions regarding social media strategy and execution, including post frequency, platform evaluation and content creation. Oversee development of content calendar to ensure consistent communication and prioritization of Chamber messaging.

14.  Allocate and maintain department budget to effectively resource marketing campaigns, website maintenance and updates, collateral development, promotional items, marketing tech stack, media monitoring, professional development, office supply needs and other expenses.

15. Work with the Business Intelligence & Technology department to stay current on regional economic data and trends and use that data to inform Chamber communications across a variety of platforms (paid advertising; social media; earned media; speeches & presentations).

16. Manage multiple direct reports to further develop leadership skills and aid in keeping staffing levels aligned with Chamber business needs.  Partner with department leaders and Human Resources in the recruitment and hiring processes to ensure the right candidates are hired.  Be instrumental in the department onboardings for all marketing department hires.

17. Provide professional development and mentoring of the department team to ensure they continue on a path to sharpen current skills, foster new skillsets and aid in their present and future career goals.

18. Attend Executive Leader meetings weekly to provide insight on department updates and to participate actively in the discussions focused on Chamber leadership, vision for the organization, and ways to create impact and achieve meaningful results within the community.

19.  Other relevant duties as assigned to achieve the department goals for the marketing department and the Greater Omaha Chamber.


Expected wage range: $95,000 - $115,000

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.     Represent the organization as needed as a subject matter expert in Marketing and Communications.

2.     Provide timely and accurate response/information on a wide variety of issues and questions about the Chamber and the Greater Omaha region

3.     Represent the Chamber with professionalism and integrity

4.     Actively participate in diversity, equity and inclusion training in order to advance along one’s own journey of inclusion and acceptance.

5.     Other duties as assigned

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise the Marketing Project Manager; Senior Graphic Designer; Digital Marketing Specialist; PR/Communications Specialist and any other departmental direct reports assigned during your tenure.

 Responsible for the direction and development of all departmental direct reports.

 

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsible for managing the department budget. Final approval for all marketing and communications. Coordinate with Chamber departments to determine and adhere to necessary budgets on a per project basis. Responsible for managing outsourced service contracts. 

 

Education and related work experience

1.     Secondary education degree in marketing, advertising, communications or related field required.

2.     Minimum 15 years agency or client-side experience.

3.     Demonstrated leadership and coaching aptitude

Certifications, Licenses, Designations

Drivers’ license required.

Professional certification preferred.

 

Other Skills and Qualifications

Proficiency with Microsoft Office software such as Word/Access/Excel/ PowerPoint

Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, which includes some evenings, early mornings and weekends.

Physical Demands

Office environment. Frequent walking, standing and sitting.

Ability to lift, pull or push up to 15 lbs.

Ability to drive and provide own transportation.
