Shelter Manager

Stephen Center has served homeless and low-income individuals in Omaha since 1984 with the mission to partner with the community, families and individuals to overcome homelessness, addiction and poverty.  The Pettigrew Emergency Shelter and Permanent Supportive Housing offerings provide safe and secure housing while individuals and families complete an assessment of permanent housing options. All Stephen Center residents have access to dual diagnosis support services via the HERO addiction/recovery program. 100% of Stephen Center shelter supportive housing participants are living in poverty.  Housing transition support identifies poverty barriers that may impact one’s ability to achieve or maintain permanent housing through case management, life skills, and behavioral health services. Stephen Center serves approximately 250 people daily in all programs.


Purpose: The Emergency Shelter Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of the Stephen Center Pettigrew Emergency Shelter. The manager will provide training and on-going supervision to Emergency Shelter Staff, Volunteers, Interns, and Work Study participants. This position represents Stephen Center at the Metro Area Continuum of Care for the Homeless (MACCH) and its member agencies.

 

Key Accountabilities:

The Program Manager reports to and is directly responsible to the Chief Operations Officer (licensee) in all matters related to the operation, planning, organizing and management of the facility.

·         Ensure 24/7 shelter staff coverage working with the Community Engagement Manager.

·         Knowledge and experience working with MACCH and assured attendance of MACCH meetings regularly, as well as other program related community meetings

·         Ensure proper usage of database collection system, Clarity, to assist with necessary reports and data collection.

·         Be dependable and punctual regarding scheduling and attendance.

·         Regular presence and oversight of Emergency Shelter and its day-to-day maintenance of sufficient resident-staff ratio.

·         Assurance of a safe, sober environment program.

·         Participate in grant research and writing, as needed and requested by Stephen Center’s Chief Operations Officer and Chief Development Officer.

·         Responsible for the supervision of all Emergency Shelter employees and shall ensure quality and safety standards are met when hiring Emergency Shelter employees.

·         Ensure all safety and security guidelines are followed.

  • Responsible for training and providing all staff supervision.
  • Responsible for oversight of all aspects of Pettigrew Shelter program standards, resident care standards, and budget compliance.
  • Responsible for hearing and analyzing complaints, ensuring residents are notified of rules and regulations, as well as enforcing the rules, supervision of programming, provision of counseling/therapy services, as needed
  • Conducts self in a manner of professionalism that is conducive to recovery from mental illness, co-occurring disorders and overall wellness, including a minimum of two year of continuous sobriety if in recovery, from the substance for which you are in recovery.
  • Implement and abides by all specific program and Agency procedures, policies and procedures, and requirements.

  • Other responsibilities may be added at the discretion of the Chief Operations Officer.

Position Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in counseling, Psychology, Human Service, or Social Work, with a minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience is preferred; or associate’s degree in lieu of the above with 3 years minimum of supervisory experience.

·         Strong work experience in an administrative position, with increasing levels of responsibility and supervision.

·         Experience with budget development and compliance.

·         Team player.

·         Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.

·         Proficiency with PC applications to include Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.

·         Strong organizational and time management skills, as well as attention to detail.

·         Ability to manage and coordinate multiple tasks and balance long and short-term projects simultaneously.

·         Ability to work with staff quickly, accurately and effectively in a dynamic work environment.

·         Commitment to the utmost confidentiality in the handling of all Stephen Center, Inc. activities, records, files, etc.

Salary: $54,000-$60,000
