Journeyman HVAC Installer
Position Summary
The Journeyman HVAC Installer installs, replaces, and repairs commercial HVAC equipment and related mechanical systems. This role works from plans and specifications, follows safety and code requirements, and delivers clean, professional installations.
Key Responsibilities
Install commercial HVAC equipment (RTUs, split systems, make-up air units, exhaust fans, ductwork, piping, insulation, supports)
Set and rig equipment safely; assist with crane picks and rooftop work as needed
Run and connect refrigerant piping, condensate drains, gas piping (where applicable), and hydronic piping (where applicable)
Install sheet metal ductwork, hangers, curbs, and roof penetrations per plans and standards
Coordinate with electrical, controls, fire protection, and other trades to complete installs
Read and follow prints, submittals, and job specifications; report conflicts to supervisor/PM
Perform start-up support tasks (pressure tests, evacuations, charging assistance, basic airflow checks) as directed
Complete daily paperwork (time, material tracking, photos, punch lists)
Maintain a clean, safe jobsite and company tools/vehicle
Required Qualifications
Journeyman-level HVAC installation experience (commercial preferred)
Ability to read mechanical plans and follow installation standards
Working knowledge of safety practices (PPE, ladders, lifts, fall protection)
Familiarity with basic refrigeration cycle and piping practices
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites
Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work at heights/rooftops
Preferred Qualifications
EPA 608 certification
OSHA 10 or equivalent safety training
Experience with rigging, crane coordination, and rooftop units
Experience with VRF, Hydronics, and/or BAS controls rough-in
Work Environment / Physical Requirements
Work outdoors and indoors in varying conditions
Frequent standing, bending, climbing, and overhead work
Rooftop work and use of ladders, lifts, and power tools
Reporting Relationship
Reports to: Project Manager (as assigned)
