Medical Assistant/LPN/RN
GENERAL SUMMARY: Assists in examination and
treatment of patients under the direction of a Physician’s Assistant or Physician.
Interviews patients, assists with procedures, and records information on
patients' charts. May be required to draw and collect blood samples from
patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. Prepares treatment
rooms for examination of patients. Familiar with standard concepts, practices,
and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and
judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Typically
reports to a supervisor, manager or physician.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Adapts
communication style to each patient’s ability to understand; Collects basic
subjective and objective data as directed by the licensed health care
professional and records in the patient medical record. Reports data to
the licensed health care provider.
- Assists
the doctor/physician with all examinations and procedures with predictable
outcomes routinely provided in the clinic.
- Ensures
patient is appropriately prepared for care encounter.
Prepares/obtains patient medical records and other
information/documentation pertinent to patient encounter.
- Schedules
and provides patient instruction(s) for tests, treatments and hospital
admissions, following correct insurance protocol. (Ie.
Pre-certification, referrals, chart documentation, etc.)
- Ensures
appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to the above.
- Maintains
patient flow in accordance with time of appointment or walk-in status in such a
manner to avoid delays for the doctor/physician and undue waiting for patients.
- Recognizes
and responds to verbal and non-verbal communication.
- Retrieves
messages and responds to calls from patients, pharmacies, hospitals, nursing
homes, and other medical offices by use of telephone and computer as delegated
by doctors, physicians or supervisor.
- Returns
authorized messages from provider as delegated and documents information
provided in the patient record based on established protocols.
- Demonstrates
competency in tasks and skills required for this position.
- Keeps
the exam rooms clean, disinfected, and stocked with supplies needed for
examinations.
- Maintains
efficient, organized, and clean work areas.
- Disposes
of needles and other sharps in biohazard sharp containers according to
procedures provided by the clinic.
- Understands
and follows orders and communicates results to appropriate doctors, physicians
or supervisor.
- Communicates
with patients, families, and other professionals in a courteous manner.
- Understands
and demonstrates compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Ensures
priority care is provided to patients in an emergency situation.
- Performs
any other duties that may be assigned by doctors, physicians or supervisor.

patients/providers requests, prepare patients for procedures/ doctors visits.
Proven knowledge of skills/position, thorough knowledge of regulatory, policy

management. Ability to evaluate problems and resolve issues appropriately.

- Regular and
substantial contact with others. Contacts usually involve discussions

patients, general public, visitors, and vendors.
- This role also
routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious
illnesses.
Working Conditions
- While
performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to
talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing,
walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping all day. The employee must
frequently lift and/or move items over 20 pounds Work involves frequent
exposure to unpleasant elements, such as medical equipment, needles,
extreme temperatures, chemicals, fumes, gases, loud noises, dirt, dust,
smoke, etc. Use of computer and medical equipment on a regular basis.
